GRC Professional (GRCP™) Certification: What You Need to Know Before You Decide
Category: Governance & Risk Management
A clear breakdown of the OCEG-issued GRCP certification — who can apply, the exam format, and its career value.
The GRC Professional certification, known as GRCP™, has become one of the most requested credentials for anyone working — or aiming to work — in Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC). Before you decide to prepare for it, it's worth understanding exactly what it is, who issues it, and what the exam looks like.
**Who issues the GRCP certification?**
The certification is issued by OCEG, an organization that describes itself as having pioneered the GRC field two decades ago, and positions itself as the authoritative source for certifying professionals in this space.
**What does the certification cover?**
The GRCP measures your integrated understanding across nine connected areas: governance, strategy, performance, risk management, compliance, ethics, internal controls, security and privacy, and audit. The exam content is built on real research involving over 1,000 GRC professionals who analyzed more than 200 skills to determine their relevance.
**Do you need specific experience or a degree to apply?**
No. OCEG explicitly states that it accepts candidates from diverse cultural, educational, and professional backgrounds, with no experience or degree requirement — which makes it a solid entry point for newcomers to the field, or an integrating credential for those who already hold a single-discipline certification and want to broaden their understanding.
**Exam format**
- 100 scored questions (plus up to 15 unscored trial questions)
- 120 minutes to complete
- Passing requires 70 correct answers out of 100
- Open-book: you may use Google and other resources during the exam, but AI tools are prohibited
- Up to 6 retake attempts per year if you don't pass
**Career value**
OCEG positions the GRCP for three career stages: a foundation for those new to the field, an enhancer for those with a single-discipline certification looking to broaden their scope, or a capstone credential that unifies multiple specialized certifications into one integrated view.
**How do you prepare for the exam?**
OCEG's own data shows that 94% of first-attempt passers say a preparatory course helped them succeed. That's exactly the role of EATM Academy's qualification program: it is not a substitute for the OCEG exam and does not issue the certification itself, but it prepares you with structured content focused on the same nine areas the exam measures — so you walk in with genuine understanding, not just memorization.
