Project Management Under Vision 2030: Challenges and Opportunities

Category: Project Management

How the nature of project management is evolving as the scope of Saudi Arabia's giant national projects keeps expanding.

Saudi Vision 2030 projects have changed the scale of the challenge for project managers, shifting them from limited-scope projects to massive, multi-party national initiatives.

**Challenge one: coordinating across multiple parties**

Major projects bring together government entities, private companies, and international investors, and project managers need coordination and negotiation skills that go well beyond traditional project management.

**Challenge two: ambitious timelines**

Many national projects run on extremely ambitious timelines, which demands precise resource planning and proactive risk management, instead of reacting to problems only after they occur.

**The opportunity: building rare expertise**

A project manager who has worked on a major national project gains experience that's hard to replicate, giving them a genuine competitive edge in the job market for years to come.

**The opportunity: adopting modern methodologies**

Large-scale projects have become fertile ground for applying Agile methodologies alongside traditional ones, giving project managers the chance to develop their skills in blending methodologies to fit the needs of each phase.

**How do you prepare yourself for this kind of project?**

Build a solid foundation in traditional project management first, then develop your negotiation and multi-stakeholder management skills, because that's the real difference between an average project manager and one capable of running a major national initiative.

The challenges on large-scale projects are real, but the opportunities that come with them are far greater for those who prepare for them properly.
